I have one of the most fascinating jobs in the world, he says.
"During my career as a journalist and author, I've met some extraordinary and often inspiring people and also found myself in some unexpected situations. I've spent the night on patrol with a special police squad cruising London's West End, corresponded with one of Britain's most dangerous prisoners, presented a live programme on a pirate radio station, and been taken behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace. On my travels, I've stood shivering on a frozen lake in Russia, watching Orthodox monks perform an ancient ritual, made a scary car journey up into the mountains of Lebanon, drank tea with gunmen in a former torture chamber in Baghdad and investigated alleged supernatural events in a village in Bosnia."
